John Henry Donohue III was born September 29, 1916 to John H. Donohue Jr. and Mary (Mame) McQuillan.  He was born and raised in St Paul.  He attended St. Thomas Academy graduating in 1935 and joined Corning-Donohue a year later in 1936.  He began as a truck driver and later was a salesman before becoming the firm’s Chief Executive Officer upon his father’s death in 1956.  He held that position until his death in 1993.  John III was active with several organizations including the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce and was King Boreas during the 1969 St. Paul Winter Carnival.  When he died in 1993 Corning-Donohue sold brick, tile and other building materials and had 45 employees.  The company located at 1407 Marshall Avenue in St. Paul and was said to be at that time the oldest building material distributorship in Minnesota.  John III was once quoted as saying that “there weren’t too many buildings in St. Paul that didn’t have bricks that came through Corning-Donohue.”  John III married Elizabeth (Bette) Lux in 1939.  She died in 1980.  The couple had 5 children.  He later married Joan Mishek.  John III died of cancer and diabetes on May 19, 1993.
