The 1880 United States census showed John Brinkhaus (age 11, born in Minnesota) living with his parents Herman (age 48, born in Prussia, hotel keeper) and Bertha (age 29, born in Holland) in Chaska, Minnesota. A brother, Henry (age 19, born in Minnesota), also lived with the family.

The 1885 Minnesota census showed John Brinkhaus (age 15, born in Minnesota) living with his parents Hermann (age 52, born in Germany) and Bertha (age 35, born in Germany) in Chaska, Minnesota. A brother, Henry (age 23, born in Minnesota), also lived with the couple.

John Brinkhaus married Louise Wold on October 14, 1896, in Jordan, Scott County, Minnesota.

The Brinkhaus – Wolf Wedding. "Mr. John Brinkhaus and Miss Louisa Wolf were marred at St. John’s Catholic Church yesterday morning. The Rev. Father Antonius made them one, in presence of a large circle of invited relatives. The bride was attended by Miss Maimie Weiland of Shakopee, and the groom by Mr. Joseph Brinkhaus of Chaska. The Sodality band, of which the groom has been a member since its organization, furnished music for the entire services. A bountiful wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride’s parents to the numerous immediate relatives, and the festivities continued well into the night. Many handsome, valuable and useful presents were presented the bride. Mrs. Brinkhaus was a social favorite with all her young acquaintances, who regret to see her depart to her future home in Chaska." Children Anthony (age 20, born in Minnesota), Alvin (age 18, born in Minnesota), Doloris (age 16, born in Minnesota), Cleophe (age 14, born in Minnesota), and Norbert (age 10, born in Minnesota) also lived with the couple.

The 1930 United States census showed John P. Brinkhaus (age 60, born in Minnesota, merchant general store) married to Louise (age 54, born in Minnesota) and living in Chaska, Minnesota. Children Cleo (age 24, born in Minnesota) and Norbert (age 20, born in Minnesota) also lived with the couple.

John P. Brinkhaus died May 17, 1960, in Hennepin County, Minnesota.
