Lanesborough. A thriving incorporated village of about 1,500 inhabitants, and a station on the S. M. Ry, 6 miles north and two miles east of the center of Fillmore county. Also located upon Root river, which affords abundant water power now utilized by three flouring mills. The village likewise contains a steam foundry and machine shop, a steam wood turning factory, and number of other factories and mechanic shops, besides a bank, 8 hotels, a brewery, and a full complement of stores. Has, likewise, three churches, a public library, and a graded school. The Lanesborough Journal (Republican weekly) is also published here. Ships wheat, flour, beer, hogs, cattle, brick, plows, wagons, etc. Telegraph, at the railroad station. Express, American. Mail, twice daily.
