The house on the old Ames "brickyard" joins the G.A.R. Hall, Trinity Episcopal Church, and the Brightwood Octagon Beach Cottage on Lake Ripley as the fourth Historic Site on the National Shrine Registry in Meeker County.  This historic house is located just northeast of Litchfield.

The Ames Brickyard was in business from 1882 until 1905.  Bricks for the G.A.R. Hall, Woolen Mills, the Raven's Nest, the old Meeker County Courthouse, and all of the old brick buildings in downtown Litchfield as well as many in the business district in downtown Willmar came from the Ames Brickyard.

During the height of his brick-making career, he built his house of cream colored bricks from 1888 to 1889.  This beautiful, old three story home with its eighteen rooms…
