Sonderman Wm…Hastings (Minnesota State Gazetteer and Business Directory including Dakota Territory 1880-81, Volume II, R. L. Polk & Co. and A. C. Danser, St. Paul and Detroit, Page 978)

At Hastings, Minn., a son of William Sondermann, aged 12 years, drove to the freight depot with a load of brick, when the axle broke, letting the box to the ground. He was hurled under the wheel, getting both bones of his left leg broken just below the knee. His recovery is doubtful. (Western Appeal, Saturday, October 8, 1887, Volume III, Number 19, Page 2)

Gold in a Kiln. Special to the Globe. HASTINGS, Aug. 9. – William Sondermann has made a gold discovery upon his premises in this city, which will doubtless prove a bonanza for him. A few days ago, in a kiln of brick, he observed that it presented a gold-like appearance, and sent a sample of the powder ore to St. Paul to be tested. F. Lehnan, analytical chemist and assayer, made the test and sent Mr. Sondermann a statement to-day, showing that there is three-tenths of an ounce of the precious metal to the ton, valued at $6. Mr. Sondermann is Hastings’ brick manufacturer, and says the expense of working this bed of sand will be almost nothing, and proposes to set up troughs for a thorough test.
