It is an active growing place, the principal manufactories being 4 lumber and planing mills, 3 flour mills, 2 foundry and machine shops, 2 breweries, 1 grain thresher factory, 1 woodenware factory, 1 furniture mnfr, 1 carriage mnfr, and 1 soap factory. Stillwater is lighted with gas, and has 2 national and 1 saving bank, and 2 English and 1 German newspaper. It is the location of the State prison, and was founded in 1843.
